BEGINNINGS AND ENDINGS

this week we celebrated our niece whitney's first birthday, and last week we said goodbye to jared's grandmother. in mormon country, the two events feel strangely similar. both are celebrated as a beginning of one adventure, and the end of another. "a change of clothes," as the dalai lama put it. and both are, of course, surrounded by desserts, potatoes, and family. and apparently in this case, they also include photo ops at the park.

so...happy 1st birthday, cute little whitney. we love you so much and can't wait to see all the cool, interesting, adventurous things you are going to do with your life.

park pics #2 - since everyone was already getting together for memorial weekend and funeral preparations, jared's family decided to coordinate some family photos.

a lot of the rest of the weekend we just spent roaming around in snow canyon and checking out the new virgin river walk (which strangely enough, is not located by the virgin river).

i guess saying goodbye is never easy, but it's usually the beginning of something new. godspeed to all of us.

  1. I'm glad you were able to be with family for both occasions, although I'm sorry to hear about Jared's grandma. Where is that yucca garden? And did you get a new ring? It's beautiful!

  2. after the flooding a few years back, stg got a bunch of money from the government to repair the virgin river. apparently they got more funding than they needed, because they decided to spend a big chunk of it on this desert walk up on the red hill (by the dixie). you'll have to check it out next time you're in town and see what you think.
and i'm surprised i haven't shown you the new (vintage 1920's art deco) wedding ring! it was jared's great grandmother's ring and somehow i got lucky enough to inherit it!
